The mantra of Reformation is to strive to be one of the most sustainable options for dressing yourself (other than becoming a nudist, that is). But this tongue-in-cheek philosophy hardly means that they're kidding around. The amount of ethical practice and environmental consciousness weaved into every step of the design and manufacturing process, even after a purchase, is remarkable — to say the least.
When Yael Aflalo first founded the brand, she wanted to ensure that buyers would love the style and message of each piece as much as the heart that lay behind it. She was set on demonstrating that locally-sourced clothing can be environmentally friendly, stylish and sustainable all at the same time.
Aligning Reformation with complimentary brands, influential tastemakers and celebrity endorsements would not only position themselves alongside good company, but within the limelight of the most discerning of fashion tastes. These collaborations included eco-friendly online retailer Lux & Eco and Suzi and James Camerons' Red Carpet Green Dress event, featuring 6 timeless and wearable versions of dresses inspired by previous Oscar gowns. We provided comprehensive editorial coverage of the capsule collection launch held at the Chateau Marmont's legendary Penthouse 64, as well as the Camerons' annual design competition, challenging designers from around the world to create a gown or tuxedo made from sustainable materials with the winning designs worn by a celebrity on the red carpet at the Academy Awards.
