South by Southwest (SXSW) Street Style

by LOOKBOOK, featuring Driely Carter  April 7, 2015

The marriage of fashion and tech is one of the hottest topics on the scene right now and this year’s SXSW (South by South West) Festival has taken it head on with SXStyle, amongst other discussions exploring the ties between fashion, art, culture and technology.

Meanwhile, the streets of Austin are getting a unique blend of style-goers coming from all walks of life – media, entertainment, music, fashion and yes, even technology. The resulting concoction has a slightly different vibe than your traditional music festival. This crowd may be fronting a mix of free spirited, casual-chic and southern boho looks but make no mistake about their creative foci – their minds are thirsty for innovation and their souls may contain just the right amount of drive to make a pretty significant impact on the world.

Behold the power of creativity and get inspired by this year’s SXSW fashion trends, captured by street style photographer Driely Carter.

Interview: Rocker Girl Caroline Roxy

by LOOKBOOK, featuring Caroline Roxy  January 3, 2015

How did you first break into full-time fashion and style blogging?

I studied design, public relations and product development in college before traveling around the world and eventually ending up at the Head Office for Gina Tricot in the denim buyer’s department. That's when I began blogging and within a few months, I was able to move to Stockholm to pursue it full-time!

Looking back on 2014, what would you say is your greatest accomplishment?

Releasing my first collection last month was the absolute best. It’s amazing to finally see it in stores and in online web shops after almost a year of working on it – from the initial sketches to traveling throughout China and all the work put behind it. I was also rewarded “The Best Fashion Blog Newcomer” (which meant a lot to me)!.

Congratulations! What's the most meaningful thing you're working on right now?

Currently, my second clothing line for Bubbleroom and my third leather jacket collection for Jofama.

What’s your favorite look for this season?

I love layers-on-layers! And, turtleneck cardigans matched with thigh high boots.

Where do you get most of your style inspiration and creativity?

Music, music, music! All of my inspiration comes from that. I’d define my style as rock-ish with a girlie twist.

Staying creative and inspired is a state of mind. I truly believe that if you do what you love, it can be surprising how creative you can actually be.

What are your ideal backdrops for shooting?

Definitely abandoned places and industrial areas.

What do you love most about photography?

Photography is another way to look at reality. I love the process of capturing memories and creating a story. I want the locations, outfits and poses to all contribute in building that particular story.

Tell us about your next shoot.

I’m going to Madrid and then Capetown, South Africa, in a month to shoot my collection. I’m definitely expecting plenty of encounters with some crazy animals there.

After that, I’ll be traveling to Johannesburg to safari, and then New York (again!).

You’ve definitely been bit by the travel bug. What’s one of your favorite places to visit?

I love Cabo. It’s amazing!

What about your home base -- Stockholm?

Oh, there are so many things I adore about Stockholm. Everyone should go to Djurgårn and just walk along the water. It’s so magical.

Plus, the majority of the people here have incredible stye. I can only think of positive things to say about the city.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully accomplished with my designs, living in a beautiful home, and with a loving man.

What’s on your iTunes at the moment?

Personal mantra?

At the end of the day your feet should be dirty, your hair messy and your eyes sparkling

Art Basel Miami With Haruna Yokota

by LOOKBOOK, featuring Haruna Yokota  December 10, 2014

Like an anachronistic clip out of a classic Baz Luhrman film, the annual contemporary art fair in Miami comes through once again on its parade of creative exhibitionism – drawing energy from some of the most exclusive, diverse and eccentric of connoisseurs and tastemakers across the world.

Art Basel is the Cirque du Soleil of art, music and culture – an explosion of style and inspiration. It’s where internationally savvy and fashion-minded jetsetters like Haruna Yokota of Haruna Barbie Girl majorly find themselves in their element.

She's not only an international tastemaker but the creative mind behind a new clothing line she describes as "soft as your first kiss, comfortable as your mother’s fur coat, and reminiscent of those mischievous nights at Studio 54.”

If there's few things reminiscent of that today, one of them would most definitely be the scene at Art Basel. So feast your eyes on this psychedelic photo diary of a 3-day wonderland – full of interesting people, covetable street style, intriguing art pieces, parties on parties, and of course, her top outfits-of-the-day.
