2120 Footwear Launch Party

Photos by Galt Visual  July 1, 2015

In the essence of old school American values and the current generation's growing social consciousness, 2120 Footwear is paving the way for high-quality handcrafted products in the sustainable footwear scene with its latest 2015 collection. Since balancing fine craftsmanship and holistic sustainability are key components to the brand, each style is designed in Los Angeles and then handcrafted in León, Mexico with the finest materials (vegetable-tanned leather being one of the most common choices).

We had the opportunity to preview the inaugural collection at The Well retail-salon-studio space in Downtown Los Angeles for a pop-up event hosted by menswear style blogger Tommy Lei. The 2120 brand not only consists of a modern, design-driven studio, but employs artisan shoemakers with manufacturing techniques dating back to the 17th century, where the post-Industrial Revolution era necessitated a higher standard of construction and design in footwear. The result is an innovative upgrade to the classic, minimalist 40s silhouette with a focus on the finer details for both the contemporary man and woman.

In line with their conviction toward sustainability, each product is handmade in safe, monitored boutique factories by fair-wage workers with premium hides that are ethically-sourced. Each one is hand selected for the collection and stretched over custom up to 3 days to optimize structure and shape. Additionally, 5% of the proceeds from the 2120 Kickstarter will be donated to Hav-a-Sole Organization, providing footwear for the homeless and disadvantaged within Los Angeles.

Any designer that puts this level of detail in constructing premium and timeless footwear, while mastering the art of purveying a socially conscious environment for those involved, garners much respect in our books. We hope you enjoy our coverage of those who came together to celebrate the brand's inaugural launch by lifestyle photographer James Galt (@galtvisual).

Summer in Biarritz

by Adenorah  June 24, 2015

Biarritz is an elegant seaside resort town, known around the world for its surf-based culture and former frequentation by European royals like Queen Victoria and King Edward VII. Located on the fringe of southwestern France's Basque coast, it's not only a favorite summer destination for style blogger Adenorah but a popular getaway for many Parisians and nearby Europeans to surf all day, enjoy incredible seaside views and lounge in grand palaces converted into modern day hotels.

There's an annual surf competition and world-class surf schools, as well as a flourishing nightlife scene with late-night bars and the famous Barrière, a grand beachside casino. A billboard that reads French chic and elegant style aptly describes the street style scene here, classic swimsuits and breezy white frocks. Espadrilles are all over the place and an easy denim shirt or comfortable jeans stand-in as the ideal cover-up.

"La cote des basques, one of the most beautiful beaches in Biarritz, is the perfect place to start the day."

"Chilling out in my cut-off denim jeans and espadrilles, I love to watch the surfers out here while snacking on tapas."

"Wearing my favorite shirt of the moment in front of a typical fisherman's hut."

"Here in the Pays Basque, the espadrille is the queen. I paired mine with high-waisted boyfriend jeans and a peasant-style crop top."

"Just under the lighthouse, you will find the best secret spot of Biarritz. The view is amazing from here."

"Oceanic blues are always a hit for summer. I tucked a light navy blue sweatshirt into frayed denim shorts with gold sandals for a casual-chic look. "

"It's time to go out in Biarritz with this 90's-inspired vibe outfit."

"This low-cut 70's inspired number is my favorite bikini for chilling out in the city of Le cap Ferret, one of the quietest and most intriguing places in southwest France."

Coachella Music Festival Inspired Looks by Volcom

by LOOKBOOK, brought to you by Volcom Women’s  April 21, 2015

Music – from the very beginning – has always been a major part of the Volcom DNA, and is the main source of inspiration for their Summer 2015 campaign “True to This.”

Our girls represent the epitome of the music festival lifestyle, whether it’s exploring the streets of Austin at SXSW or wandering the deserts of Indio during Coachella. They’d prefer stumbling upon tucked away music centric hideaways and discovering a sound and style of their own, rather than getting lost in the masses.

Inspired by Lookbook’s style bloggers, Volcom Women’s is ready to groove into summer with these festival-ready threads.

LITTLE BLACK BOOTS | JILL WALLACE

“It's happening people – we are knee deep in festival season. The energy this year is infectious – everyone’s shedding layers and amping up for the spring and summer shenanigans!

I’ll admit that some of my best memories have come from festivals. You really step into an alternate universe where your main focus is making it to the next show and dancing your face off with new friends – all the while appearing somewhat human during the whole process. I will never forget these experiences and hope to make many more in the future.

So, God speed and good luck to everyone braving the heat, crowds and dehydration this weekend!” – Jill Wallace of Little Black Boots

“Has anyone seen March? I'm not quite sure where it went! The temperatures are heating up and I haven’t even gotten the a/c in my car fixed (it’s like a personal sauna on wheels), so my goal in the next couple of weeks is to finally make my way to the beach.

I've had a yearning to just sink my toes into the sand and acquire some awkward tan lines with a few of my one-piece suits, including this one by Volcom which is screaming for some salty air.” – Jill Wallace of Little Black Boots

SUGAR & SPICE | KAY KAY BLAISDELL

“When the first string is strummed, people forget all their frets; bodies move all around, perfectly placed notes and words make voices sound. We’re young and alive; our hearts are full and so are our minds. We let the music feed our soul and the room becomes our home. We might be misfits and a bit different, but we are just kids who love music.

So excited that it’s finally festival season! I’m ready for the fashion, the music, and getting to dance around with my best friend. Sugar & Spice was built on a love for music. It’s in our DNA & we will forever stay”– Kay Kay Blaisdell of Sugar & Spice

SUGAR & SPICE | MADELINE BECKER

“Hooooooray! Festival season is here and Coachella is kicking it off. We skimmed the interwebs and put together some of our festival favorites for you guys (featuring our favs from Volcom Women‘s festival collection)! Not only do we love these outfits, but we love how they encourage people to stay true to themselves and their own uniqueness. –Madeline Becker of Sugar & Spice

FIRE ON THE HEAD | RIMA VAIDILA

“When Volcom asked me to style two festival-inspired looks for Coachella, I'll admit I was a little nervous. I'm not a big "boho" girl, but as soon as I saw these little denim short-alls, I was totally in. They're perfect for running around the polo fields and looking equally as cute over a little crochet tank or string bikini top. Coachella here I come!” – Rima Vaidila of Fire On The Head, photos by Nicholas Maggio

Rima is wearing: Volcom City Limits Tank / Volcom Denim Shortalls / Volcom Strappy Sandals

“With Coachella just around the corner and the summery weather setting in, it’s time for another final festival-style look from my Volcom collaboration. Although this look is a little 'every-female-at-coachella,' it's perfect for that hot, desert heat. The last time I was there, I'm pretty sure I ended up walking around in a bikini and trying to hit the indoor, air conditioned parties because it was just that hot.

I started with this pretty crochet one piece and threw on black, distressed short-shorts. I finished it off with this open knit, fringy sweater and rad hat. (warning: be prepared for some side boob and major skin – sorry!)" – Rima Vaidila of Fire On The Head
